Birthday Balloons!

With my son Branduff celebrating his 16th birthday in September and my dear old dad Joe doing a birthday jig in October, I needed to get those creative juices flowing and make some cards!

While I have a tendency to make alot of floral and feminine cards, these had to be appropriate for the male persuasion. I used the Stampin' Up Crazy for Cupcakes because you can't go wrong with cupcakes, candles and balloons for a birthday. In this instance, I decided to use the balloon stamp in the set.

I think this card was about having the right background paper. I've had this stitched Prima paper in these sherbet colors sitting in my paper stack for ages. It's one of those papers that never gets used because I am waiting for just the right project! And this was the one! I love how the stitched print design of the paper resembles balloons with strings.

A collection of Stampin' Up cardstock was used for the balloons, which were stamped in black ink, and then trimmed out. The cardstock was too brash on it's own against the background paper, so I used a gold glimmer mist to create softness, warmth and glow. String was added to each balloon -- I used pop-up adhesives.

Light yellow vellum paper was run through the crimper to provide a subtle effect. That was adhered to Very Vanilla base card.

Once the balloons were positioned, the strings were gathered and tied with SU seam binding ribbon. As you can see from the samples, no two cards turned out the same! The cards were very simple to make.
